Order Numbers

Numbers have a fixed order: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... 'Smallest to largest' means starting with the lowest number and going up. 'Largest to smallest' goes the other way.

Worked examples

Put these numbers in order from smallest to largest.

Find the smallest first: 1 comes before 3 and 5 when you count. Then 3. Then 5 is the largest. Answer: 1, 3, 5.

Answer: 1, 3, 5

Put these numbers in order from smallest to largest.

Count up from 0 — 2 comes first, then 6, then 8. Answer: 2, 6, 8.

Answer: 2, 6, 8

Tips

  • Count up from 0 to find which number comes first.
  • 'Smallest' is the number you say earliest when counting.
  • If you're not sure, count the gap between numbers.
