Make a Number
A number can be made in many ways by adding two smaller numbers. For example, 5 = 1+4, 5 = 2+3, 5 = 0+5. All of these make 5. Finding all the ways is called 'making a number'.
Worked examples
Which two numbers make 5?
Check: 2 + 3 = 5. Use fingers: hold up 2, then 3 more, count all — that's 5.
Answer: 2 + 3
Which two numbers make 10?
6 + 4 = 10. You can check: count 6 fingers on one hand and 4 on the other — that's 10.
Answer: 6 + 4
