Add with Pictures

Adding two groups means counting them all together to find the total. For 3 + 2, count the first group (1, 2, 3) then count on for the second group (4, 5). The total is 5.

Worked examples

Count the first group: 1, 2, 3. Then count on for the second: 4, 5. Total is 5.

Answer: 5

4 + 3 = ?

Start with 4. Count on 3 more: 5, 6, 7. The total is 7.

Answer: 7

Tips

  • Count the first group, then keep counting for the second.
  • Or start with the bigger number and count on the smaller.
  • The total is how many there are altogether.
