Sort: Real or Pretend
When you sort things into 'real' and 'pretend', you decide if each one could happen in real life. A dog barking — real. A dog driving a car — pretend. Sorting like this builds your understanding of fiction (made-up) vs non-fiction (true).
Worked examples
Is this real or pretend? — A unicorn flying through the sky.
Unicorns are make-believe creatures and they don't fly — this belongs in the pretend group.
Answer: pretend
Is this real or pretend? — A cat drinking milk from a bowl.
Cats drinking milk from a bowl is something you can see in real life — this belongs in the real group.
Answer: real

- •Ask: 'Have I ever seen this happen in real life?' If yes, it's real.
