Retell a Story
Retelling a story means saying what happened in your own words. Good retellers remember who was in the story (characters), where it happened (setting), and what happened — beginning, middle and end. You don't need to remember every single word — just the main parts.
Worked examples
Story: 'Sam lost his teddy at the park. He looked under the slide and found it!' How would you retell this?
Tell who (Sam), where (park), what happened first (lost teddy), and what happened next (found it under the slide).
Answer: Sam was at the park. He lost his teddy. He looked and found it under the slide.
What three things should you remember when retelling a story?
Good retelling needs three things: WHO was in the story, WHERE it happened, and WHAT happened (beginning -> middle -> end).
