How Books Are Organised
Writing has rules — called CONVENTIONS — that help everyone read it the same way. Capitals at the start, full stops at the end, spaces between words, reading left-to-right. These rules make text easy to read.
Worked examples
Which is written correctly? — (A) 'thecatsatonthemat' (B) 'The cat sat on the mat.'
B has spaces between the words, a capital T at the start, and a full stop at the end. A is missing all of those — it's hard to read.
Answer: B
Which is written correctly? — (A) 'we like to swim' (B) 'We like to swim.'
B has a capital W and a full stop. A is missing both — those are print conventions.
Answer: B
Tips
