Words can be sorted into groups by what they ARE. Animals, fruits, colours, clothes, vehicles — each is a category. Sorting practice helps you build your understanding of how words connect to ideas.

Which category does 'shirt' belong to?
A shirt is something you wear. It belongs in the 'clothes' category — with hat, shoes, pants, etc.
Answer: clothes
Which category does 'truck' belong to?
A truck is something you drive. It belongs in the 'vehicles' category — with car, bus, bike.

Tips
- •Ask: 'What kind of thing is this?'
- •Think of other words that are similar — they're in the same category.
- •Some words fit more than one category — pick the most obvious one.
